My role in the Materials economy has been the Golden Arrow. I buy things. I am a consumer. Like the video said, this is the step that fuels the entire economy. Other economies rely on building things, or selling things to other countries, but ours relies on the general public constantly buying things. And after we buy them we need to throw them away to make room for more stuff. The movie talked about perceived and planned obsolescence. When you think about it some, we are all victims of that. Especially when it come to things like ipods and computers. In summary my job as a consumer is to buy things and then throw them away so we can buy more stuff.
What we can do to stop this is to do things like be more frugal and thrifty in our lifestyles. Install compact florescent bulbs only buy new things when you really need them. And support alternative energy sources. We can all write our senators and congressmen. They have to listen to our opinions and they can't ignore us forever.
